Sigh, finally... such a relief that after 2 months of filling out forms, medical exams and just a lot of stress about whether I was doing stuff right or not, today I finally heard the wonderful words "Your visa is underway and should arrive in the mail for you tomorrow".
So what happened this past month...?
On May 3rd (yes, my birthday) I had to visit the Dr. Van Goyen Kliniek in Amsterdam, to have an X-Ray scan taken of my chest. No idea why they need that for my immigration, but oh well...
After that, I had to see another doctor in Amsterdam, who would examine my blood, give me some extra vaccination (which would make sense if I was headed for Africa... but oh well...) and do some basic medical tests with me.
After this (pretty expensive) day of doctors, I had a week to check and double-check (and triple-check!) all the forms needed for the "Final Interview" at the US consulate in Amsterdam, which was this past Wednesday.
After spending an hour at the Consulate (again pretty expensive) the result was that my forms were all fine, but I didn't have a passport-copy of Michelle's mom with me (who is going to be my financial aid, in case I end up homeless on the street :-)), meaning they couldn't accept my application yet.
To make a long story a bit shorter... today I called the Consulate AGAIN to ask if everything was fine now and this time they came up with the awesome news that my visa application has been approved!!!
So now the final 1% is getting a nice "ADMITTED" stamp in my passport, which will be at the airport in San Francisco. This shouldn't be a problem, unless I forget to bring the paperwork which the consulate sent me... :-)
So yeah... feeling relieved that it's all pretty much taken care of now... and that I can spend my final week in Holland worrying about how to pack all my stuff... :-)
